The concern of Naomi for Ruth (3:1) Naomi realized that she herself was too old to seek rest (a husband and the provision, security, and comfort that he could provide) but she desired that Ruth find rest. Here we find a mother-in-law who loved her daughter-in-law and desired for her that which she herself was unable to possess. The rest sought for Ruth is a type of the rest given to all sinners who place their trust in Christ, Matt. 11:28–30; Heb. 4:3.
